Waterbury has over 30 summer meals locations across each city where kids and teens can eat free, healthy meals all summer long. However, only 1 in 4 kids and teens that rely on free or reduced price meals during the school year get the nutrition they need in the summer. We need your help to make sure that families know about this program in Waterbury!
We invite you to join us in our efforts to raise awareness about this federal program by participating in our “Outreach Blitz Day” this Friday, August 3rd from 9:30am-1pm in one of two ways:
1. Help us Pound the Pavement!
We will be splitting up across the city to distribute promotional materials to organizations and businesses and raise awareness of the free Summer Meals Program.
Meet at 9:30am at the West Side Middle School Cafeteria @ 483 Chase Parkway, Waterbury, CT for a brief orientation and to pick-up your outreach materials for the day.
2. Join our Social Media Outreach Challenge!

About Summer Meals
Connecticut’s Summer Meals Programs provide free, nutritious meals to kids and teens at select locations throughout the state during the summer months when school meals are unavailable. The USDA provides funding for summer meals through federal nutrition initiatives like the Summer Food Service & National School Lunch programs. Sites are established throughout the state in areas of towns where 50% or more of the population is eligible for low-income food benefits.
Currently, only 25% of Connecticut’s kids and teens under 18 who are eligible for federal nutrition programs over the school year access the free and nutritious food they need over the summer. For this reason, the Connecticut No Kid Hungry Campaign, a partnership between End Hunger Connecticut! and Share our Strength, aims to increase the low level of Summer Meals participation by 10% this summer, and we need your help to do it.
We look forward to seeing you on August 3rd for the Waterbury Outreach Blitz Day and thank you for your continued support!
